In South Africa family goes beyond just blood ties, our neighbours, church mates and colleagues are also family. The knot that ties all of us together as one family is Ubuntu. The whole community is family. Ubuntu is the African word meaning humanity to others. It also means I am because of who we all are. This body of work aims to explore the role of Ubuntu in the family—family being the community in this context.
