Euromaidan 2014

This project shows protests on the Maidan Nezalezhnosti square in Kyiv (Ukraine) in January 2014:

"Since the beginning of Euromaidan our life has flipped over. Starting from November I have been living by devouring all the information about what was happening in the country. The historical importance of the events taking place was felt sharply. I came to Kiev at the end of January in the period of active confrontation on Grushevskogo Street. Molotov cocktails and gas came into play and people were beaten. I instinctively focused on documenting the situation. The photos came out to be epic and fully in tune with the revolutionary spirit of the events. "

I artificially age images of today’s Ukraine by developing them on outdated Soviet photographic paper to transfer them from the category of documentary imprint into the category of gathered memory or experience. On the one hand, this reflects my reaction to the rapidly changing situation in the country and my need to conserve my homeland’s historical moments. On the other hand, the use of the 100 year old-looking aesthetics causes us to search for historical parallels apart from our personal memories.
