Georgi Bonev
BULGARIA
Georgi is self-thought emerging photographer from Bulgaria. In age of six, he held his dad’s Fed 2 rangefinder camera for the first time. He pushed all buttons, one by one or all in the same time, even tried to disassemble the camera, but still could not understand what this strange box was supposed to do. Apparently, this was not moment of clarity for Georgi…until he was 20+ years, when he began developing passion for photography. The combination with his constant desire for adventures made him travel even more, while looking for secret places to discover. Just pushing the button, trying to capture the moments as he sees them, and to enjoy the magic of photography. Today Georgi is happy to say not much has changed since then.
Vanishing Worlds – Kazakh Eagle Hunters
Georgi consider himself a citizen of the world, which explain the majority of the past 18 years he spent living and working in Germany, South Korea, Papua New Guinea, Romania and various other countries in South Eastern Europe. In 2009, he started his long-term project VANISHING WORLDS aiming to provide a glimpse into the life of tribes. Regardless of the current age of rapid development, super consumption, and constant desire to find new followers and likes on social media, there are still indigenous people, living outside of the modern world, as we know it. From them we could learn about origin of human kind, what the important things in live are, what makes people happy…before it is too late and their wisdom is gone. As a photojournalist, Georgi tries to merely be an observer and document events without influencing his subjects. Today, the visual arc Georgi built, covers the stories of 90+ tribes, scattered from the depth of Papua New Guinea’s jungles, the freezing subarctic region of Central Asia, the burning sands of Sahara Desert, all the way to the Andes in Latin America
