Tshepiso Mazibuko was born in 1995 in the township of Thokoza , Ekhuruleni in South Africa. She was introduced to photography by the ‘Of Soul and Joy’ initiative funded by Rubis Mecenat .
Mazibuko is inspired by her own enviroment . She tells stories of people who live close to her, by documenting her own township. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions such as the Ghent Photo Festival , group exhibiton at the Johannesburg Art Gallery , part of a group show at the Turbine Art fair 2016 and has been awarded Warren Editions Artist of the year for 2017.
She has just recently finished her studies at the Market Photo Workshop.
Encounters is a body of work about the community of Thokoza. It explores the everyday life, capturing chance meetings between myself and my community in the process of creating links between society, landscape and history of the place.
